Objectified 2 (Landscape) is an installation created by Michael Joo, an American-born Korean artist whose works are characterized by material, cultural and philosophical contrasts. This installation was selected to remain as part of the Rodin Gallery's permanent collection. The trace of a chair is suspended within a glass enclosure. The chair is made of a three dimensional camouflage fabric which drapes the invisible image of what used to be a chair. The four glass walls are all different heights; each one stepped down in height as they circle the chair. The back corner of the glass enclosure is left open almost allowing access inside the glass pavilion. Brooks Atwood worked in collaboration with Michael Joo in developing the glass enclosure system for this exhibit as well as creating a series of 'process' drawings. The drawings and diagrams show the ideas behind the project and how the project was assembled at each stage, starting with a masking tape square drawn out on the floor. These drawings allow the viewer to engage the installation in a new way. These process drawings were used by Mr. Joo for his video presentation as well being on display next to the installation. The installation in the Rodin Gallery on view December 1st through January 28th 2007.
